Through a cost-shared agreement with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation and Bell Aliant, St. Anthony Basin Resources (SABRI) is contributing $361,914 to provide cellular service to communities on the northern tip of the Great Northern peninsula. This represents 25 per cent of funding for the total project, which is estimated to cost $1,447,655. SABRI is making this contribution with the support of donations from residents and business within the region; including a $25,000 contribution from St. Anthony Seafoods Limited Partnership and a $20,000 grant from the International Grenfell Foundation.
The funding will see the placement of a new 80-meter Long-Term Evolution (LTE) tower in Raleigh, and a new SimpleCell pole in St. Lunaire-Griquet. The installation will improve and expand the mobile network coverage and bring High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) and LTE mobile technologies to approximately 4000 residents within the SABRI Region, from North Boat Harbour to Goose Cove. SABRI is very pleased to partner with TCII and Bell Aliant on the Cellular Service Pilot Initiative to provide cellular service within our region as an economic development enabler and contributor to improving the viability of those communities.
Bell Aliant has submitted the required applications to the crown lands office, construction is expected to commence in the summer of 2019.
